Not everyone has that perfect smile, which is completely okay. However, if you are not-so-happy about your face, especially your smile, it can dent your confidence considerably. Thanks to cosmetic dentistry, you can correct most of your dental problems. A minimally invasive and effective way to improve the look of your teeth is to use veneers, also called porcelain veneers. This brings us to an important question – What are veneers: what issues can they solve? In this post, we take a look at the basics.

The basics

Veneers, for the uninitiated, are made of porcelain or resin composite materials, which are used to cover the frontal surface of the teeth to improve appearance. Veneers are often used to change the color and shape of teeth to enhance a person’s smile. Considered as one of the common cosmetic dentistry procedures, veneers can be made of varied materials these days, although may dentists often push for porcelain, which works effectively for minimizing stains and also imitates the look of teeth enamel.

Why are veneers used?

As mentioned above, veneers are used for correcting appearance of teeth. This is a great choice for anyone who has discolored or stained teeth. Various factors, including root canal treatment, can affect the color of teeth, and veneers is an effective way to fix the issues, without any invasive procedures. Veneers can be also used for teeth that have worn down or chipped, or even for teeth that are uneven or are not aligned properly. If you have teeth with gaps in between, veneers can be considered for that, as well. For that aesthetic smile that doesn’t look unnatural, this is one of the best options.

Get an appointment

It is more than important to get an appointment with your dentist to understand if dental veneers will work for your smile concerns. Make sure that you select a reliable dental office because dental veneers cannot be reversed. As such, if the veneers chip, the whole process of fixing and improving the appearance of your teeth will cost a lot more. Done right, veneers can last for as long as 15 years, after which replacement is required.

Talk to your dentist about your concerns and he/she should be able to guide you on the possible options. Not everyone is a good candidate for dental veneers, which is again something that’s up to the dentist and will be decided after the initial checkup.
